Privacy policy
Effective 9 October 2026
Tripgadget is a travel companion app. We try to know as little about you as possible: almost everything stays on your phone, and what goes to our server is only what it takes to answer your request.
What stays on your phone
Trips, bookings, spending, translations, checklists and settings are stored on the phone. Photos of receipts, tickets and signs are not kept: the app reads them and saves only the result, such as the amount spent.
What our server stores
- An anonymous install ID. Every installation gets one to use the server. There is no name, phone number or email behind it.
- A copy of your data — only if you turn on sync: trips, bookings, spending and settings, so they are on all your devices. Turning sync off with deletion erases this copy.
- Shared trips: what you share with your travel companions, and the name you gave them.
- Sign-in with Google or Apple, if you use it: the account ID and email address that Google or Apple provide. We never receive or store passwords.
- Technical logs: request times, types and IP addresses, kept for a limited time to protect the service from abuse. The text of messages, emails and translations never goes into logs.
The main server is in Finland. For users in Russia, requests go through a server in Russia that only passes them on and stores nothing.
What is sent to answer you and not stored by us
- Chat, translation, booking emails and photos. Messages, texts, pasted emails and photos are sent to our server and to the AI service DeepSeek to get an answer. We don't keep them after answering. Offline, on supported phones, an AI model on the device answers and nothing leaves the phone.
- Location. On the phone it is used to tell which country you are in. To find places nearby, the weather and travel times, coordinates are sent to our server and to mapping services: OpenStreetMap (Overpass, Nominatim, OSRM), Open-Meteo and TomTom.
- Flight status. The flight number and date are sent to a flight-status service (such as AviationStack).
- Voice input is recognised by your phone's own system (Google or Apple) under their terms.
Exchange rates, maps, place photos from Wikipedia, app updates and AI models are downloaded without any of your personal data.
What we don't do
We don't sell data, don't show ads and don't share data with third parties other than the services listed above that the features need.
Deleting your data
- On the phone: uninstall the app — everything it kept on the phone goes with it.
- The copy on the server: Settings → “Account, devices and sync” → turn sync off and delete the data.
- Your whole account — write to us and we will delete it with all its data.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will tell you about important changes in the app.
